The Advanced Search feature allows searching for a patient with information other than the patient’s name and date of birth or MRN.
The MIN-NS HIE is designed to return your patients information, not give an extensive list of patients, so whenever more than 25 patients are returned from a patient search, you will see the message “Search criterion is too broad, please narrow down the search criteria”.
To narrow the search criterion, we must add more patient information. In the Advanced Search, we want to add different types of information as well. If we have the patient name, then we need to add information from the second or third column. Adding the patient Social Security Number, Driver’s License number, or phone number will narrow the criterion to match.
Adding the patient address is another good way to search. Start with only the city and state, ad the street address may have many variations with abbreviations.
If the city and state is not enough to match a record, add the street numbers and street name and omitting completely or adding the first letter of word Street, Road, Lane or Avenue. First letter will match either the complete word or the abbreviation. Upper or lower case should not matter.
