Search for Patient Records

Finding your patient information is a key task using the HIE. Once the record is located, you can gain access to all documents stored in the HIE.

After logging into the HIE, select the Patients button at the top of the screen. This opens the Patient Search Page.

Here we locate patient records in the HIE and  gain access to patient documents.  Notice at the top there are two types of searches: local and network. Search Patient allows you to find patients from your organization (using the local search) and from all MIN-NS trading partners (using network search) the most commonly used type.

Search using MRN

  • Search for a patient record using the hospital MRN only when logged into the hospital HIE node.
  • The MRN will find all network records for the patient. The image below shows a network search using local MRN for a patient record in the HIE.

Search using Name and DOB

  • Both pieces of information are required.
  • If the patient last name is sufficiently unique, the first name may be omitted.  A short last name with just 3 or 4 letters with achieve better matches using first name as well.
  • The image below shows a network search using patient name and date of birth for a patient record in the HIE.

Search Result

  •  Both of the above searches retrieve the same result.

Selecting the name in blue text from the search result displays the patient demographics. From here you will have an additional menu of actions.
